Audiphone Company Profile

Company Bio

Audiphone Company has been a Cleveland landmark since 1930. We are probably the oldest hearing aid dispensing company in the United States.  Audiphone was founded by J. Leland Utley, Sr., who realized the tremendous benefit hearing amplification brought to his quality of life. Mr. Utley was with Audiphone until his passing in 1962. His son, J. Leland, Jr. continues the family-owned tradition that remains until this day.

Mr. Utley started his career in hearing instrument dispensing in 1947. He worked with his father in downtown Cleveland in the Rose Building and later in the Williamson Building until that was torn down for the Sohio Tower. Upon his fathers passing in 1962, Mr. Utley and his wife, Nancy, continued the tradition. He opened the Rocky River office in 1975. Mr. Utley has been very active throughout his career in advocacy for the hearing impaired. He is a charter member of the National Hearing Aid Society and Ohio Hearing Aid Society, serving in all positions on the board including President.
