Some circumstances may still be a challenge. Many times, the acoustics of the situation may be so dynamic that your hearing instruments may not be capable of satisfactorily duplicating the desired source. Your hearing instruments were designed to help you hear voices better in a typical listening situation, but not all situations are typical. Hearing instrument prescriptions are based upon the presumptions that the noise level encountered will not exceed the volume of a human voice in a typical listening situation. If we were, for example, to set up the instrument's acoustics to hear really well at a distance in church, the acoustics would be overwhelming in a noisy small room. Some examples of non-typical listening situations are telephone use, TV, theaters, places of worship or a meeting room. Therefore, since we can't set the acoustics for all possible situations, assistive listening devices can fill that need. The products listed in these next pages are certainly not conclusive. There are many other devices available such as amplified/flashing smoke detectors, doorbell ringers, and even your own personal FM system for theaters or church. Sometimes the most appropriate solution is not to modify the hearing instrument, but to acquire the device best suited for a particular situation.  Please talk to us about such special needs.
